Principles for safer spaces
- Respect personal boundaries: Do not touch others without permission and respect everyone’s right to define their own boundaries. If necessary, also ask for space for yourself.
- Be respectful in words and actions: Avoid mocking, discrimination, and humiliation. Do not criticize appearances, gossip, or reinforce stereotypes.
- Avoid assumptions: Do not make conclusions about anyone’s background, gender, sexuality, religion, or abilities based on external factors.
- Give everyone space to participate: Ensure that everyone has the opportunity to express their opinions. Listen to others, avoid dominating, and handle sensitive topics respectfully.
- Be open and willing to learn: Approach new things and people without prejudice and see them as opportunities to grow and learn.
- Apologize when necessary: If you offend someone, whether intentionally or accidentally, apologize.
If you encounter harassment or inappropriate behavior
- Intervene if you notice someone violating the safer space principles at guild events or premises.
- Report the incident to the guild’s harassment contact person, or to a designated harassment contact person if one is appointed for the event. You can also reach out to the event organizers or members of the Board.
- If necessary, the person responsible for harassment can be removed from the event or premises.
- If you experience or witness inappropriate behavior, you can contact the harassment contact team via email at hairinta(at)sik.fi or reach out to them through Telegram.
